Product Development - De Bush
Process Development - Kevin Keener
How do you convert a great recipe into a formulation for production? Multiple large-scale suppliers for ingredients in the product must be sourced. A location for initial scale-up must be secured and this location must be approved by the Board of Health. Product quality and shelf-life are key considerations in product development. A determination of the type of product you have and how it will be distributed will form a basis for the processing method required for further scale-up production. There are various methods of preservation-what process do you require? Processing methods include freezing, drying, mixing, canning, and refrigeration. To further increase shelf-life and promote your product, packaging options need to be evaluated. The facility where you proceed with scale-up production for distribution will likely be a co-packer. Various co-packers have different processing capabilities. Finally, quality control is an important factor in maintaining consistent quality.
