Dr. Ron Turco

Research
Dr. Turco will be the overall Project Coordinator. His expertise is in the areas of microbiology and microbial ecology and he will participate in the development of Hypotheses 2 and 3. Turco and Nies are responsible for all aerobic microcosms, PLFA and DGGE analyses, Molecular probe assays, and 14C additions and for anaerobic microcosms
Synergistic Activities
- Initiated and directed the Environmental Sciences and Engineering Institute (ESEI). ESEI coordinates grant applications and environmental outreach activities at Purdue University. In the past 5 years, ESEI has managed approximately $4.5 million in successful grant applications. More importantly, the actions of ESEI have helped to revitalize Environmental programs at Purdue University. ESEI is now working with faculty to establish “sustainability” as a key theme at Purdue University.
- Developed a team-taught class on Remediation Technologies. The class included faculty from Engineering, Science, and Agriculture.
