Biography
S. Suzanne Nielsen is head of the Department of Food Science at Purdue University. She graduated from the University of Nebraska with a B.S. degree and from the University of Minnesota with M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, all in the area of Food Science but with additional training in Nutrition and Biochemistry.
Dr. Nielsen teaches undergraduate and graduate food analysis courses, the introductory Food Science course, and a graduate level food proteins course. She has research projects on the plasmin enzyme system in milk and on the nutrition and utilization of legumes.
Dr. Nielsen has been active in the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). She has chaired the Indiana Section IFT and served on the numerous national committees and task forces. Dr. Nielsen was selected as a Fellow of IFT in 2000 and received the IFT William V. Cruess Award for teaching in 2002.
