Careers

Once you get your degree, you can choose a career in one of the largest industries in the world. Food scientists apply microbiology and biochemistry to improve the taste, nutrition, and value of our nation's food supply. They can be employed in science-related positions in quality assurance, product development, research, technical services, and product procurement. Food scientists can also enjoy careers in related fields such as food communication, advertising, and consumer education and protection. Graduates may also choose to pursue graduate studies, law school, medical school. There are many opportunities for Food Science graduates. Salary

The average starting salary for a Food Science graduate from our department is $42,500. However, the location of employment will have an effect on salary. Food scientists have a lot of potential for moving up the salary "ladder" with time and experience. Furthering your education with graduate school or professional school can also affect salary.

Placement

Our Food Science program continues to have 100% job placement for graduates who are actively seeking employment. Many companies will interview possible job candidates right in our building or on Purdue's campus. Our department also makes students' resumes available for many companies.
